    Mr. Pham Viet Muon is Vice Chairman of the Office of the Government of Vietnam and has been Standing Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for Enterprise Reform and Development (formerly the National Enterprise Reform Committee, or NERC) since 2005.


    Mr. Pham was the Vice Chairman of NERC between 1999 and 2005. Prior to that, he was the President of the Institute for Industry Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Industry, between 1997 and 1999; and the President of Institute for industrial Economic & Technology Information between 1996 and 1997.


    Mr. Pham has a wealth of experience working at the ministerial level on economic and market development in Vietnam.


    He holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration and a doctorate in Economics. He speaks English and Russian

  • Mr.  David Skilling , Head of McKinsey Global Institute in Southeast Asia

    David Skilling is an Associate Principal with McKinsey & Company’s Public Sector Practice, as well as being a Senior Fellow with the McKinsey Global Institute, McKinsey’s in-house economic think-tank.  David is based in Singapore. David’s work with governments in Asia has focused on economic strategy, management of government balance sheets, and policy execution and delivery.  David's initial research at the McKinsey Global Institute was on the functioning and prospects of the global reserve currency system.
    Prior to joining McKinsey at the start of 2009, David was the founding Chief Executive of the New Zealand Institute, a privately-funded, non-partisan think-tank, which focused on achieving significant impact in important areas of policy.  David led research in areas including savings policy, broadband policy, foreign policy, and climate change strategy, and the reports and commentary were widely acknowledged as having led to substantial policy change. David made frequent appearances in New Zealand and international media on these issues.
    Until 2003, David was a Principal Advisor at the New Zealand Treasury.  Between 2001 and 2003, David helped to lead the Government’s work on Economic Transformation, writing a series of high profile and influential papers on New Zealand’s economic performance, prospects, and policy options.  In his time at the New Zealand Treasury, David also advised on a wide range of policy issues such as the management of the government’s commercial assets, government balance sheet management, and developing a risk management framework for the government.
    David has a Ph.D. in Public Policy, and a Master in Public Policy degree, from Harvard University, as well as a Master of Commerce (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of Auckland.  He was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University for three years, and has also worked at the OECD.   David was elected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2008.  David is also a Fellow at the Civil Service College in Singapore.

    Marco Breu is the Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company Singapore Pte Ltd at Hanoi. He is also a co-leader of our Financial institutions practice in Southeast Asia with main focus on Operations and IT.
    Marco is a Swiss national and joined McKinsey in 1999 in Zurich. He moved to Asia in 2002 based in Seoul, South Korea. In 2005 he moved to Singapore covering Southeast Asia. Since 2009 Marco is in charge of our presence in Thailand as well as focusing on McKinsey’s business developments in Vietnam.
    His main areas of expertise are banking/insurance, public sector, and infrastructure. Marco covers market entry strategies, growth strategies, and a broad range of operational topics including lean and six sigma operational improvements. Prior to joining McKinsey, Marco worked in the asset management industry.
    Marco has published widely in Swiss, German, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese newspapers and magazines on operational improvement, public infrastructure and consumer insights topics.
    He is also a part-time lecturer at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the National University of Economics in Vientiane, Laos as well as one of the organizers of an entrepreneurship program for the Mekong region.
    He has a Masters Degree of Economics from the University of Berne, Switzerland.

  • Mr.  Thomas W. Tobin , CEO of HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd

    Thomas W. Tobin is currently CEO of HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. He first joined HSBC in Canada in its commercial banking division and in 1990 was selected for the International Management programme and posted to Hong Kong. Mr Tobin is a seasoned banking executive with extensive experience in emerging markets, having worked in corporate and institutional banking, securities, personal financial services and general management. He has lived and worked in Asia for many years, in countries such as Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Singapore.

     

    Immediately preceding his responsibilities in Vietnam, Mr Tobin was Head of Personal Financial Services for HSBC in Singapore, Manager of HSBC’s Hong Kong Main Branch and Senior Personal Financial Services Manager for HSBC in Brunei. As President and CEO of HSBC in Vietnam in May 2006, he has successfully led HSBC to become the first locally incorporated foreign bank in Vietnam, with the establishment of HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. on 1 January 2009.

     

    Mr Tobin holds a Masters in Business Administration and is a graduate of the Wharton School’s Advanced Management Programme.

  • Mr.  Jose Isidro N. (Lito) Camacho  , Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse for the Asia Pacific region and the Country CEO for Credit Suisse Singapore

    Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Camacho was the Secretary of Finance for the Philippines from 2001 - 2003. In this role, Mr. Camacho led the country's economic team and supervised the fiscal and financial sectors.


    Prior to that, Mr. Camacho was the Secretary of Energy for the Philippines where he was credited with the successful passage of the country's power sector reform legislation.


    Mr. Camacho was previously Managing Director and Chief Country Officer for the Philippines at Deutsche Bank, AG in Manila. Mr. Camacho began his career at Bankers Trust where he worked for twenty years in various positions in New York, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore. 


    Mr. Camacho graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from De La Salle University in 1975. He received his M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Harvard Business School in 1979.

    Prior to joining SSIAM, Ms. Hang has been leading SSI Research and Investment Advisory department since 2008. Besides managing the day to day operations of SSI’s Research and Investment Advisory Department, she also leads the Department in forming new research products that better serve the need of SSI’s institutional and individual clients. Under her supervision the research team has become one of the leading research teams in the market.


    Prior to joining SSI in summer of 2007, Ms. Hang was a research analyst at W.P. Stewart (1999-2007), a New York-based Asset Management fund that manages 8 billion USD.
